Pre-season 2011

Posted August 12 2011 by rzabransky

Dear Friends,

I am extremely honored to accept the role of President of the BOHC. During the last 3 years of serving on the executive, I have come to appreciate the effort that is required to maintain and grow such a well run league. Thanks to Gary Marshall for his dedication to keeping the league organized and maintaining the traditions of the club. Gary's new role of Past President will include chairing the nomination committee and working with the community on behalf of the BOHC.

Many thanks to retiring directors Lino Fera and Chuck Caruana for their efforts over the past years on the executive. Our new board members include Larry Code with the role of Secretary, Simon Medhurst with the role of Director of Communications, and Ken Warren as Director of Hockey. Other changes to the board include Wendall Ahearn as our new VP of Hockey, and the promotion of Bruce Marsh from director to VP of Fundraising and Discipline chair.

Returning to their current roles on the executive team are 1st VP Mark Buchanan - Administration, - 2nd VP Peter Greig - Membership, and Richard Krummenacher - Treasurer.

Thanks to all of our Bowser ladies for a record year of collections for the food bank. It's a great feeling to be part of a hockey league that contributes so much to the community. The 35th Invitational tournament was a success due to the planning and hard work of Rick Fox and his committee. Combined with the money raised from the Ham and Turkey and the Referees Association, a donation of $8,100 was paid to the Carpenter Hospice.

For the 2011/2012 Hockey season we will enjoy all of the renovations being completed at Mainway arena. New refrigeration equipment and dehumidifiers are just some of the work being done to improve our ice conditions and hockey experience. We have added two hours of ice on Saturday afternoon in place of Tuesday night at Skyway. Saturday hockey was introduced last year with a new pubnight format called Hockey Night at Hectors. These new pubnights were a big success and will continue this season.

Our financial position continues to be strong with no increase in fees for this season. The extensive network of volunteers is the foundation of the BOHC. I encourage you to participate in our events and volunteer your time if you are able.

Cheers, Rob Field
