Convenor’s Message
First of all I would like to say a heartfelt welcome to 20 or so new players that joined the White Division, as you all may or may not know our division has the reputation of liking our refreshments after our games. Hence the decision this year to give the teams similar names along that particular theme, honouring that long held tradition of going back to club for a couple of pops to socialize, make new friends, and generally have a good time off the ice as well as on it.
With all the new blood in the division we got off to the usual rocky start and some players had to be gently reminded that this is supposed to be fun recreational hockey. We have more eyes on and off the ice and play is being constantly monitored. In the past we have used rule 5a and will not hesitate in using it in the future. There are no scouts in the stands and everyone makes the playoffs, my advice to all is “don’t take that stupid penalty!” So ends the lecture.
This year we have 3 Co-Convenors; Andrew Griffith, Bruce Marsh and Art Roberts. Andrew is always the voice of reason at our Captains meetings. Art provides a perspective from the goalies point of view. Al Dauglis is our Pool Convenor, Al, does a great job at coercing guys out to cover those 11 PM games! Paul White is our statistician; Paul is right on top of it and I might say doing a fantastic job! Some may say that with all the Convenors, Captains, and a Statistician this Division is very bureaucratic. What can I say? Come forward to me with an idea and you will have a job, they don’t call me Donny delegate without reason!
Bruce Marsh needs special attention here; he has stepped up to the plate as Co-Convenor in charge of special events. Bruce has members of this Division volunteering to help in many ways. He organized the ticket sales for the Ham and Turkey as well as pulling door prizes from the membership. That wasn’t enough; he had 18 of our guys out in the cold rain for the Santa Clause parade. Jamie Edwards was there with his vintage MG, a hockey bag in the trunk rack and the top down! Rumour has it that Bruce looking to get our division very much involved in this year’s Invitational tournament, so if you haven’t stepped up and done your part, see Bruce he has a job for you! You might also know that each of these events is followed by more socializing in a way only Bruce is famous for.
I would also like to thank Don Theroux for his very generous donation of the snow blower as a prize for the invitational tournament. You will see the snow blower parked inside the club – apparently the boys fired it up the other night – Don we know it works! Thank you so much!
If you see a guy out there playing defense for Teal with 50 year old yellow gloves that have been re-palmed 25 times and Stan Makita Itech helmet, his name is Charlie Charlebois. We have been trying to get Charlie for years but Orange wouldn’t let him go! When you see him, give him a big welcome to the Division.
With inter-divisional trades, injuries, and pool movement we have moved 16 players to date. With all that movement we still have a team that is 15-3-1. Well what can you say – on paper they are not that good – I do remember that we said the same thing about a certain Green team a few years ago and they went 35-5-5 (however, that team didn’t do so well in the round robin)
In closing, I would like to wish you and yours a
Warm, Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy, New year!
Let’s get out there. Have some fun, and above all Play SAFE!
