Congratulations to the Golden Tee’s on winning the final day championship! Also congratulations to Brent Schmidt on receiving the MVP of the game with a stellar goaltending performance resulting in a shut out for the game. This game capped off a great season in the white division. While we started off with three teams on the top and three in the bottom of the league, we finished dead even, with the third place team taking on the last place team in the final game.
The closure of the 2012-2013 Season comes with sadness that our hockey is over for another season. I know some of you are looking forward to some time off, do some golfing, etc, and others are playing in the summer league to keep their sea legs for the start of next season.
I personally am looking forward to coming to the rink to play and not just watch games being played in the fall. This past season was very trying for your co-convenors, as both of us were down at one time or another in the season with health issues. We are both on the mend and will be fully ready to compete come the fall.
Speaking of my co-convenor, John Stolte, I would personally like to thank him for his endless efforts in getting this league running as smoothly as it does and for being a good mentor to me to “take the reins” full time next season as convenor. John will be stepping away from all the hustle and bustle of organizing this division and is going to enjoy just being a player again after several years of being a captain and convenor. If you see John around the rink, please let him know that his efforts were not in vain. On that note, we will be welcoming Jim Hindley into the assistant convenor role for next year. Jim’s many years in old timer hockey and serving as a captain on more than one occasion has prepared Jim to step up and help me out with the running of the league. Please welcome Jim to the position!
I want to take this opportunity as well to thank all the captains for another outstanding year they have completed. Without these volunteers this division and league would not function. A captain is the meat in the sandwich between players and the executive. They pass on information to you, look after the lines and the running of the team and provide leadership to all of us. Please let them know that they are appreciated as well when you see them. On that note, we are still in the process of deciding on captains for next year. We have a number of individuals that have applied, we have some captains returning and some retiring from service. I will announce our captains as soon as I know who they are in my next blog.
I would like to thank Glen Nicholson for doing an OUTSTANDING job as the pool convenor. His dedication to this task is unheralded. He has graciously accepted to return for another season and I for one am grateful for this knowing that the pool could not be in better hands! Great Job Glen. Please pass on your words of encouragement to Glen for doing this very taxing and thankless job!
Remember that if you have not registered for next season, the deadline is April 30th! Pool players interested in full time can still apply for full time service next season. Once registration and inter-divisional movement between divisions is completed, we will be having our divisional draft and then the teams will be announced.
And lastly, remember that the Annual General Meeting is Monday June 24th which gives you as members oppotunities to ask the executive questions, get further information and to vote on members applying to the board positions.
To one and all I wish a very safe and happy summer season.
See you in the fall.
