Never Forget and A Team by Team Summary

Posted October 29 2008 by Red Convenor

AS NOVEMBER 11th APPROACHES, PLEASE TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO REMEMBER THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SELFLESSLY GAVE THEIR LIVES SO WE CAN LIVE IN THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND ARE FREE TO PURSUE OUR TRIVIAL PASTIMES LIKE RECREATIONAL HOCKEY.

Lets take a few minutes and look at each team in our division.

Team #1, The St. Pats
Much like their namesakes, the St. Pats play a similar game to the great Toronto teams of 1919-1927 and the 1922 Stanley Cup Champions. In fact, they often play like they were born in the 1920’s. Captain Jeff Davis surely has his hands full with this bunch.

Team #2, White Snowflakes
Winter is the Snowflake’s favourite time of year and they are hoping for a late spring so they don’t melt during April’s playoff run. Captain Snowflake (Brad Hilson) has the highest number of new players and we don’t know what to expect from them this season. So far, so good.

Team #3, Teal Autumn Leafs
Veteran captain Jim Winter’s team is off to a slow start but he is sure to get them motivated into a contender. Their beautiful teal uniforms are very seasonal but lets hope they don’t end up like all the other autumn leafs, stuffed in a bag at the curb.

Team #4, Black Snack Attack
DO NOT get between these players and the table on pub nights or you will surely be run over. Returning captain Greg Anger has surrounded himself with a hungry bunch and with big Ed Babuska swallowing up all the rebounds they should be tough to play every night.

Team #5, The Blue Line Knitting Club
As our search for new uniforms has begun, I would like to suggest that Captain Glen Cameron’s team could create some fashionable new jerseys for everyone. Certainly they seem to have the time while standing out by the opposing team’s blue line during the games.

Team #6, Les Red Pylons
Captain Dave McKissock has always been known as one of the league’s smoothest skaters and its good to see some of his fellow Pylons out practising at public skates around the city. Wait a minute, those are real pylons that only resemble some of his players. Sorry, my mistake. Maybe you could use them as pool players, Dave.

Finally, a word about our referees. They are as good at refereeing a game as we are at playing! (And I don’t mean to insult the boys in stripes by saying that.) Please be respectful towards them at all times.
