MARCH UPDATE

Good Day Fellow Orange Division Players….

As we crawl out of February and into March, our season is only 7 games away from heading into the Round Robin. I truly believe ( finally ) that the statement ” on any given night” now applies to our division as I am confident that parody has finally been achieved, with all of the teams very close in talent level. At this point, Green leads by a point over Black, with Red only four points back, which should prove to be an interesting race for the coveted League Championship Award ( a T-Shirt!). For the record, White has now been mathematically eliminated from winning the Division , with Teal/Gold not far behind.

Again this month, we have had 2 players call it a year, for 2 different reasons. On February 4th Don Bibby, # 16 Gold, took a nasty fall and broke his leg playing in a tournament in Kitchener, and is obviously done for the year. ( But, if you ask him , he claims he will return before the end of the year…good luck with that Don! ). On February 13, Steve White , # 9 Red, 21 year veteran of the BOHC packed it in, as business obligations have forced him to relocate to the sun drenched, balmy city of Winnipeg. Steve does claim however, that he may well return in a couple of years, and we are obviously hopeful of that.

As you all know, there was a rather large ” push” on for Ticket Sales for our annual Burlington Invitational Tournament over the past 3 weeks, with a Freebie Pub Night offered up as the “carrot”. I made it that much more interesting with a small wager, that the team selling the least amount of Tickets, buys the team selling the most amount of tickets, 2 pitchers of their favorite brown pop. Obviously, the Red team took this seriously and went crazy, selling 16 books, while Black, having the lowest total, selling only 8. The other 4 teams sold 10 each. The total amount for the division came to 64, and as promised, we have earned the Freebie Pub Night, which has been scheduled for Saturday April 16th, ironically enough, the final night of Round Robin play. ( We were targeting a Feb 19th Pub Night, but because of it being a long weekend, a ton of regulars weren’t around, 20+, so it was decided to move it to April ). Our games that day, are at 2:30/3:30/4:30, so it should be a good fit, please try and attend as each team is entitled to 5 pitchers of beer ( well Red will have 7, with 2 more coming, compliments of Black ), and there will be a crew there, on the BBQ with several different items to offer up to eat. Well done boys, you earned this one! And Thank-you!!

I am going to start soliciting now for Captains for the 2011/2012 season. What we like to do is have Captains do a 2 year stint, maximum, and unfortunately, we will have only 1 returning next year, leaving vacancies for 5 new ones. For those that aren’t aware, if you are considering taking on the role of Captaincy, one of many perks that you are entitled to, is that you will be permitted to select your own assistants (2 ), and everything beyond that is a ” blind draft “, which is typically done in June. If you have interest , but have some concerns, or questions, please do not hesitate to discuss with your own Captain ,or if you like, come directly to me, or my esteemed assistants, Mark Anderson , or John Rivard, as we have all been Captains, and assistant Captains in the past, and would be most happy to provide any information that you would be looking for.

Finally…I’ve noticed the intensity is picking up a tad, no doubt a preview of the very intense Round Robin that will soon be upon us….keep in mind boys, it’s a skate, and a pop….nothing more! Have fun!
