HORNETS PULL OFF THE HAT TRICK…..

Congratulations to Angelo Sottana and his Green Hornets, who defeated the Red Hot Chili’z in the Orange Divisional final 3-2 at Appleby April 17th. It was a very entertaining game, with the score going back and forth. Unfortunately for the ” Chili’z”, their goalie, Sylvain Viau, injured himself in the first period, fought through the pain, but clearly was not himself. Congratulations to Paolo Zulian for being named the MVP for the game. So, to review, the Green Hornets pulled off the rarely achieved Hat Trick, by winning the League Championship, the Round Robin , and the Horse Race, which is very uncommon. ( Ironically enough the Green Hornets were the “only” team in the division that did not have any player movement on their team after 2 interdivisional balancing meetings….mmmmm!!)....
Usually, following Championship Sunday, Cogeco advises the BOHC when the games are to be aired, and it is put on our website. Unfortunately this year, they did not advise us, and I understand the games have already been shown, twice.
Congratulations to Wendall Ahearn , this years winner of the FRED GUISTINI award. which is the ORANGE DIVISION OLDTIMER OF THE YEAR. Wendall, has been a long time Orange Division member, served as Captain for 2 years, an assistant for 2 years, and has been on the Board of Directors for 2 years, and is running again to serve yet another 2 years. Wendall puts in countless hours, behind the scenes, and is just one of many Board Members that do not get the recognition they deserve.
I would like to wish a speedy recovery to the guys that went down with season ending injuries, at some point during the year, and hope that they are back in good health in time for the beginning of next season…they are, Andre Leclerc, Ron Francoeur, Don Bibby, Mike Sanscartier, and Rob Patterson.
At this time, I would like to express my gratitude to the outstanding job done by the Captains, in this very challenging year, which saw a bunch of new players and continued growth with the BOHC. They are, Angelo Sottana ( Green ), Mike Downey, ( White ), Robert ( Buddy ) Fugard, ( Teal ), Dave Guluche ( Black ), David Lenover ( Gold ), and Steve Taylor ( Red)...As you witnessed by just over halfway through the year with the Captains working together,, I believe we made the division very competitive, with every team having a chance to win every night. Feedback from the new guys that joined the BOHC was extremely positive with most echoing , “how well run the BOHC is, good competitive hockey, followed by post game refreshments at Hectors…
I would also like to thank my esteemed assistants who were instrumental to the success this past year. They are, your new Orange Division Convenor ( effective May 30th ), Mark Anderson, his assistant for next year, John Rivard, and last but not least Andre Leclerc, our Pool Convenor…...
Also, I would like to thank the guys that stepped up when the search was put out for Captain for the 2011/2012 season…As we have only 1 returning, Steve Taylor, the hunt was on for 5 new ones. ( For the new guys, a Captain is requested to serve for 2 years only, as we like to mix things up a bit )...Our new leaders for next year will be, Pat Cocklin, Mark Thompson , Rick Vascotto, Mike Masur, and Andy Grougrou.
Please make a note to try and attend our ” Annual General Meeting” ( AGM ) which is Monday May 30th , 7:30 at Hectors. This is an evening that the Board present a ” state of the union ” address, bringing all of the members up to date on what has transpired in the past year along with what lies ahead for the BOHC…
Registration numbers are filtering in and we have a full division already for next year. Team drafts will be done approx 3rd/4th week of June, and the teams should be posted by mid July. If you have any questions regarding this process, again , please feel free to contact either Mark, or John.
Finally, I would like to thank the entire Orange Division for the ” jaw dropping ” evening of Saturday April 16th, when I was completely caught off guard coming in for a ” Freebie Pub Night/BBQ “. I had no idea that the evening had turned into a ” thank-you from your friends in the Orange Division”, it meant a lot to me, and I do not have the words to express my appreciation.. I was stunned to see what was in the envelope presented, which was 2 gift cards for the golf course I belong to in Guelph, Victoria Park Golf East. ( I have already bought myself a new golf bag , and will have a bunch of fun buying other items there). Also included was a Keg Gift card so I can take my wife Sally ( Sarah) out for dinner. As I stated that night, I had done this job for 7 years, and truly enjoyed every minute of it, considered the boys like family over the years, with lots of good times, and I will miss the role, but rest assured, you are in good hands now with Mark/John.

I believe I have covered everything, and with that, I will wish you and your families, a safe, enjoyable, and most importantly, healthy summer, and we’ll crank it up all over again in September..
