CONGRATULATIONS GREEN HORNETS!

What a fantastic finish to our regular season, coming down to the final night of play to determine the Orange Division Regular Season Champs for the 2010/2011 season. Angelo and his boys controlled their own destiny, as all they needed was a victory over the Midas Touch ( Gold), which they managed to pull off, 2-0, and the title was theirs. Historically, Divisional Champs usually lock these up with a few games to go, but this is the first year in the 11 year history of the Orange Division, that it came down to the final game. The only down side of this years odd scenario, was that, usually teams will have some fun in the last few meaningless games, flipping defencemen up to play forward, and putting forwards back to play a little ” D “...just to give them a taste of what real back checking is all about.. The other rather curious thing was that the top 3 teams vying for 1st place were playing the bottom 3 teams. I am hopeful, and optimistic that the round robin will have similar suspense, as I do believe that this play-off is wide open , and any team is capable of winning.

Moving ahead into the Round Robin, the new players will see a definite increase with the intensity, emotions etc etc…It is after all, for yet another T-Shirt!!! Just a few requests from all of you heading into this. Any complaints or issues with the refs should be dealt with by your Captain only, or Assistants, if the Captain is not available. Be warned, the referee’s will NOT tolerate chirping, whining, moaning,complaining, yelling on or off the ice, and will not hesitate in handing out minors, if warranted. While we are on a that topic, ( verbalizing ), we have two Saturday afternoon, and one early evening game, where it is likely that families, with kids will be in attendance. Foul language will also not be tolerated, no matter which direction it is intended, and will also be called by the referees, without warning or hesitation.

Please do not procrastinate if you are interested in playing next year, and have your registration form and cheques at Hectors BEFORE MAY 1st…If you forget, or it slips your mind, you lose your seniority, and in all likelihood will not be placed on a full time team next year….Please note…no exceptions will be made if you are late. In my previous Blog, I had stressed a need for Captains for next year, and to date I have 3 confirmed, and 1 ” maybe”, so, I am still in the hunt for 1, possibly 2 more guys. Again , if you’re thinking about it, but have questions, do not hesitate to contact your own Captain , or myself directly, and we would be most happy to answer any of your questions…

Most importantly, for the full time players, please do not forget our year end FREEBIE PUB NIGHT, quickly approaching on Saturday April 16th, commencing approx 4:00 pm at HECTORS. We earned this one as a division guys, selling our required minimum 60 books of tickets for the Invitational, costs nothing…beer/BBQ, compliments of the BOHC…what a great way to wrap up the year…
