Congratulations to the “RED HOT HABS” for clinching the League Championship last night with a 2-1 victory over the Green Giants. There was a rumor that “BIG RED” ( not content with just winning the League ) are “driving for 60 ” points, but I’m sure there is no truth to that, as we all know, it’s about having fun, and not about how much one can win by…...
With 6 games to go, first placed established, and play-off spots locked up (by the top 6 teams in our division), this is the time of year that teams starting tinkering/having a little fun with their line-ups, by putting defensemen up ( if they so desire), and bringing forwards back to play ” D ” to give them an appreciation as to how difficult it can be ( well, for some anyway).
I’m sure you are all aware by now, that we tried yet again to help the “White Tights”, with 2 more player moves a few weeks ago. I struggled with this decision, as I really do not like moving players so late in the year, but I thought it was the right thing to do, given how much White has struggled all year.
I would like to thank Bruce Bishop ( while playing in his first game with White, injured his hamstring, and ” may ” be gone for the year), Sean Jenkins, Tony Baguely, and Brad May, for accepting these moves with little resistance. I know that players develop friendships with teammates, and do appreciate how difficult it is to be moved specifically, at this late date.
Not to sound redundant, but as we approach the Round Robin, I would like to stress yet again , the need to keep your emotions in check, and to rely on your Captain in voicing any of your comments, complaints, inquiries etc with the referees, while on the bench or on the ice. Bench minors will be handed out to teams that are out of control, and as always, I will be counting on the Captains to ensure their players stay focused and just play hockey…..
Another request I have along the same line is “foul language”....2 of our 5 Round Robin Games are weekend afternoon tilts, where no doubt, families, and kids will be attending, so I would request that you please watch your language. ( note…penalties can, and will be assessed for swearing from the bench, or on the ice).
As previously mentioned, I am still looking for Captains for next year. I have had only 2 players come forward, along with 1 returning, so I am now looking for 3 more. One suggestion that was made was that each team ” try ” and put 1 name up for consideration…..This is a thought, however, I do not want to force anybody into this, as it is a very important job, and the success of our division next year revolves around having 6 solid Captains, who are aware of the goals set forth by the BOHC.
That’s it for now gentlemen. I will be finishing off the year with one final message, following our Championship game, acknowledging the winner, and all of the key people involved in making the Orange Division as successful as it has been….
Have fun guys, play well, keep your heads up, and the sticks down….
