Congratulations to Just Black on winning the Orange Division playoff finals with a 6-4 victory over Grey Matter. Congratulations to Captain Mark Thompson and his assistants Rick Fox and Brian Wilcox. It was a nice blocked shot by game MVP Duane "Ranger Smith" Gray that led to an empty net goal by the Ranger that sealed the victory.
Congratulations also to Grey Matter on winning the first place divisional award for regular season play. Kudos to Captain Pat Cocklin and his assistants Mike Motz and Angelo Sottano.
The winner of this years Fred Giustini award, presented to the player who best exemplifies the spirt of BOHC hockey is Rick Fox. Rick is very deserving. He puts countless hours in to the league with his work on the BOHC tourney and many other causes and events. Congratulations Rick on a job well done.
The end of year BBQ and pub night was a great success. Thank you to Rick Fox and Bruce Marsh and their crews for all of their hard work with this. Once again the food was great although I noticed a lot of guys seemed to shy away from the spiked beans.
Andre, John and I would like to thank each Orange Division player for the generous gifts bestowed on each of us. It was much appreciated. As many of you know, John Rivard has completed his two year term as co-convenor and has signed on as captain for next season. John attended all of the meetings behind the scene, filled in for Andre when he was away and was always available for his opinion and input on league matters. John did a great job and we thank him for that. Andre Leclerc has also retired as pool convenor after an amazing 30 years as a pool convenor within the BOHC. Andre thank you for all you have done.
Unfortunately when I gave my little speech at the pub night I forgot to mention the most important part. I had forgot to mention that on behalf of the division I nominated Andre for the honorary lifetime membership award and this was unanimously approved by the BOHC board. Congratulations Andre it is well deserved.
I am happy to report that both Dan Rose and Warren Osbourne responded to our call for assistance with the co-convening. Further, Rob Cresswell bravely stood up and offered to take on the pool convenor job. Thank you three guys for stepping up and helping out. It is volunteers that make the club and division work and I encourage each of you who have not yet stepped up to do so in the future.
A reminder that your registrations and payments must be received at the club by May 1st in order to keep your seniority and for full timers to guarantee your spot. Drop it off when the club is open or leave it in the mail box. Poolies, if you want a full time spot now is the time to put your registration in as a full timer. Every year brand new guys get in so don’t delay if you want a spot.
The AGM is June 24. Mark it on your calender.
Before I close. I mentioned some special thanks to some guys in our division at the pub night but most of them were not there. Our division is really well represented on the Board. Special thanks to Richard Zabransky, Mark Buchanan, Wendall Ahearn and Rob Field. The work those guys along with Ken Warren, formerly of our division put in, especially in the last two weeks of the season is unbelieveable. Thank you guys.
In closing, on behalf of John and Andre I want to wish each of you a safe and enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing all of you back on the ice in September.
