Greetings:
Yesterday brought an end to the 2010-2011 hockey season. The Championship game resulted in a 4-2 win for Team 62 (White Eagles) over Team 66 (Red Whine). Congratulations to both teams for a hard-fought game. The outcome was in doubt until the final buzzer.
Congratulations, as well, to the Lean Mean Green Machine on coming in first in league play, finishing a comfortable 8 points ahead of the rest of the pack. Although they struggled in the Round Robin, the Green teams from all divisions did win the Horse Race and the cash prize that goes with it. Should be quite a year-end party!
For those who were not able to attend the annual Awards Night, here is a brief summary:
Most goals: Mike Perosivic (Team 62)
Most Improved: Trevor Hall (Team 66)
Defensive player: Scot Cameron
To honour our long-time Coach, supporter and Past President Bob Wood, we have initiated an award to the player who best exemplifies the ideals of Oldtimer Hockey. The inaugural recipient is Greg Watson.
MCs Steve Shuta and Doug May did a great job of moderate the evening, handing out supplementary and fun awards and keeping things flowing. Dave Campbell provided his unique, and humourous, outlook on Captains and teams. Who writes his material?
My thanks and appreciation to all the Captains and Assistants for a great year. I know that for many, it has been challenging, but next year should be better. This year, the teams were very evenly matched, as evidenced by the outcomes in both the regular season and the Round Robin. Well done!
The registration for next season deadline is May 1. If you wish to maintain your seniority and to play next year, sign up by that date. Download and print the registration form from the BOHC website and leave it, and cheques, at Hector’s.
What is next on the agenda? The Captains will be meeting shortly to review all player ratings. These be used to determine any player movement either up or down in the league. Division Convenors will meet in June to decide player movement. Team Captains will also meet in June to draft teams for the 2011-2012 season, again using the ratings to ensure balanced teams.
In the meantime, have a great summer! Watch the beer and wings to keep yourself in condition for next season. I’ll see you on the ice!
