This has been the busiest year since I became involved as Convenor. We have had some serious injuries and we all hope to see these guys back next year, as ending your season in the fall can’t be any fun.
We have entered the “Silly Season” when discipline becomes an issue for all of the divisions. We all need to remember its about having a bit of fun and some exercise a couple of times a week.
Everyone of us is fortunate that circumstances allow us to play hockey long after most have given it up for less hazardous pastimes. All of us have to be pretty committed to do what it takes to be part of BOHC, not to mention the understanding of our families who indulge us this luxury.
The league faces many changes and challenges next year and the Board of Directors and several committees are very busy dealing with issues that simply can’t wait. The time put in by Gary Marshall, Rob Field, and Wendall Ahearn on the hockey side and by many others on off-ice issues is astounding. And the next time you’re frustrated by a ref, remember that Jim Lahey, Director of Hockey Off-Ice puts in his time like the rest of the Board- as a volunteer and Mike Veerman, the Head Zebra is active at board meetings and helping with the planning and administration of the league.
Within the Division, Lino Fera has an active role on the Board and Bob Wood spends endless hours on scheduling.Keith Macdonald is the “voice of reason” and Ross Fallis has to deal with last minute Poolie requests all season long. We have six Captains trying hard to be competetive AND see that everyone has fun. These Captains are about to ask you to dig deep again and see if we can sell 10 books/team of Invitational Tickets again this year. The money raised will support our contribution to Carpenter Hospice; a vital local facility that seems to see BOHC members as clients far too often. If you have any question about the charity, please check their website.www.thecarpenterhospice.com.
Play safe and remember that we are all here for the same reason.
