Welcome to the 2009-2010 season.
Doug McLean and I are your new Conveners. We replace Bruce Nicholson who after five plus years of expertly steering the Green Division ship has decided to take a well deserved break. Although we had a chance to thank Bruce for his commitment to Green Division at Awards Night last March we would again like to extend our sincere appreciation to Bruce for all he has done in his role as Convener.
In other changes, Bill Adams, has decided to relinquish his Captains title after many years in that capacity. We would like to thank Bill for his invaluable contribution as Captain over the years. W suspect that as he can now just focus on playing he will be an even greater force to reckon with on the ice.
With Doug and I assuming the Convener mantle and Bill Adams retiring as Captain this has created an opportunity for three new Captains. Please welcome Chris Hill, Randy Mlynek and Mark Purchase as the “Rookie Captains” joining the seasoned crew of Steve Hunt, John Prior and Dave Whyte.
New for this year is the “Zero Obstruction” rule which basically means you can only use your stick for passing and shooting and not to catch a ride down the ice around the arm or leg of the opposition. As well please make sure you are out of the dressing room no later than 30 minutes after the game.
On the medical front we are glad to see Keith “Red Pop” Mason, Chris Langlotz and Real Caron back in action after recovering from their respective ailments. Bert Hesselink is starting to skate again after getting the green light from his cardiologist and we hope to seem him back to regular Pool status as soon as possible. Dave Rankin, who sustained a torn MCL after the start of the season is on the mend. Eldon Cocklin did not get the green light from his cardiologist and will miss the season. We wish a quick recovery for both Dave and Eldon and don’t be afraid to join us for a beer at Hectors.
We are now ten games into the season and the traditional cry of “Break Up The ______” echoes in the stands. This year it is Green who is quick out of the gate and is the focus of everyone’s attention. We will see how things go over the next couple of weeks as everyone gets used to playing with their new teammates and go from there.
If you are looking for way to get more involved in the activities of the Green Division, we are still looking for a Pool Convener. If you are interested give either Doug or I a call.
That’s it for now. Enjoy.
